We sold our house!

We sold our house! That was the first step. Well, at least in this new journey. This lake adventure actually started about 4 years ago. Matt, my husband, told me he wanted to buy a lake property around Chautauqua Lake in New York. And I thought he was crazy. Most of the best things we have done start out with me thinking he’s crazy. Anyway, we probably drove down every tiny side street around the entire lake one November weekend. We fell in love with the area and thought maybe in five years we will find something we like and can afford. We bought a place that February, haha. It was the cutest little 1948 saltbox house with charming details like original hardwood floors, crown moulding, chair rails, beautifully detailed ceilings, and a cottage-style, updated kitchen. It over looked the lake without being right on it and it was perfect. And now we’ve sold it.

This past December 2018, the day after Christmas, Matt shows me this property. 1970s, fake paneling, orange shag carpet, yellow tub, carpet in a bathroom (!!!). Imagine my horror. You want to trade our charming little house for this rundown nightmare. I thought he was crazy (see, haha). But I looked closer. It’s nearly on the water, it has a private dock, it has 3 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, it has a huge great room with a fireplace that opens up to a deck overlooking the lake, it’s on a quiet street. All of these were things our first cottage lacked and this new house was full of possibilities. It is full of possibility. So we’ve passed the first and second hurdle.

1. The owner of our new place accepted our offer and

2. We sold our house!

And now we try to make our dreams reality. It’s going to be a TON of work, but we like an adventure. Hopefully we will close on both properties in the next two months and the real fun can begin! I’ll have to read that sentence again when I’m ready to scream into a pillow after renovations begin.
